Indiana's capital features a diverse economy that includes education, health care, finance, and tourism. Most people are familiar with the Indianapolis 500. Other major sporting events include the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard (formerly the "Brickyard 400") and the NCAA Basketball Tournaments.
After experiencing urban decay in the 70s and 80s, Indianapolis's future appears bright as the city continues to invest in infrastructure projects such as an expansion to the Convention Center, upgrading of the I-465 beltway, and a new airport terminal for the Indianapolis International Airport. Construction of the Indianapolis Colts' new home, Lucas Oil Stadium was completed in August 2008.
Indianapolis hosts the annual, three-day long Indy Jazz Festival. Past performers include B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, The Temptations, Dave Brubeck, Emmylou Harris, and Norah Jones in addition to regional and local favorites. Every May Indianapolis holds the 500 Festival, a month of events culminating in the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade the day before the running of the Indianapolis 500.
