New York

Where to begin: Central Park. The Bronx Zoo. Ellis island. Greenwich Village. Lincoln Center. Times Square. The Metropolitan Opera. Broadway. Off-Broadway. Off-Off Broadway. And that's not to mention bagels, cheesecake, corn beef sandwiches, and just maybe the best pizza anywhere. Arguably the most happening city on Earth and home to 8.3 million people, The Big Apple has something for everyone. From Washington Heights to Little Italy, from the Upper West Side to the Lower East Side, Manhattan boasts more diversity in languages, people, and cultures than virtually anywhere else in the world.

Comprised of five boroughs - Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx - New York is the birthplace of many cultural movements, including the Harlem Renaissance in literature, abstract expressionism, and hip-hop, punk, salsa, disco and Tin Pan Alley in music. And of course, the city is home to the Mets, the Yankees, the Jets, the Giants, the Rangers, and the Knicks.

Like the city itself, many of New York's neighborhoods and landmarks are world-famous. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Wall Street, in Lower Manhattan, has been a major financial center since World War II.
